This paper is a discussion of crisis communication in order to gain a better understanding of the U.S. Navy's crisis communications actions after the submarine collided with the Japanese fishing boat. This paper will analyze the crisis management performance of the U.S. Navy throughout the crisis. This study is organized into 6 chapters: Chapter 1 provides an overview of the accident. Chapter 2 is a review of the scholarly literature on crisis communication theory. Chapter 3 provides a methodology for the case study. Chapter 4 analyzes the Navy's crisis communications performance per scholarly theory. Chapter 5 is a discussion of the U.S. Navy's crisis communication performance. Chapter 6 provides a summary and suggestions for future research.
