摘要

In this thesis, the gain of the magnetic amplifier is derived theoreticallyas a function of different parameters of the circuit. An experimentalcircuit of a series-connected magnetic amplifier with aresistive load is set up to verify the theoretical results. Starting from Kirchoff's Voltage Law and Ampere's Law applied tothe circuit, with the polynomial representation of the magnetizationcurve of the core material, a set of equations for currents and fluxesis obtained. These equations contain nonlinear terms. The Poissonperturbation method is used to solve the simultaneous nonlinear equationsof fluxes. Successive approximations of core fluxes and currents can be madeto get the theoretical results as close as required to the experimentalresults. Only the first approximation is computed in this thesis.The only difficulty one can encounter when using the perturbationmethod is the lack of knowledge of the region of convergence. Thesmallness of the coefficients which are negative of the nonlinear factorsin this particular application contributes to the rapid diminutionof the contribution from successive approximations.
