Considerable bauxite deposits were discovered inudTasmania towards the end of 1941.udThe purpose of this investigation was to carry outudanalyses of representative samples from the Ouse andudSwansea deposits and to discover to what extent the BayerudProcess was suitable for the extraction of alumina fromudthe Ouse bauxite.udThis thesis embodies details of the above two aspectsudtogether with outlines of the methods of analyses enployed.udPreliminary work on the dry extraction process using sodiumudcarbonate is also included.udAnalyses of four samples of clay. occurring in theudimmediate vicinity of the Ouse deposits are listed in theudAppendix.
