The problem formulations of this research are as follows: (1) How is students’ ability in English sentence building at the eleventh grade of MAN 4 Martapura in academic year 2014/2015? (2) What type of grammar transfer is occurred in English sentence building at the eleventh grade of MAN 4 Martapura in academic year 2014/2015? (3) What is the most difficult aspect of English grammar influenced by Indonesian grammar schemata at the eleventh grade of MAN 4 Martapura in academic year 2014/2015?udThe subject of this research are 94 students of the eleventh grade of MAN 4 Martapura consisting of IPA class, IPS A class and IPS B class. The object of this research is Indonesian grammar schemata which are transferred while translating Indonesian sentence into English.udThe research is qualitative research. The data were collected by using written test consisting of 25 multiple choice items and 25 translating sentence items. All data were then analyzed using qualitative method.udFrom this research, it can be concluded that students' ability in English sentence building is categorized in poor category. The mean score of all students is only 49.6. It is also found that the type of grammar transfer occurred in English sentence building is both positive and negative transfer. Moreover, the result of the research also showed that the most difficult aspect in English grammar is preposition, in which it is influenced by Indonesian grammar schemata, resulting about 60 students were unable to answer the questions related to that topic.
