The statements of problem of this research are: 1) how is the vocabulary mastery of the students who like watching the western movies; 2) how is the vocabulary mastery of the students who do not like watching the western movies; and 3) is there any difference between students who like and don not like watching the western movies in their vocabulary mastery. The objectives of this research are to find out the vocabulary mastery of the students who like and do not like watching the western movies and to find out the significance difference between students who like and do not like watching the western movies in their vocabulary mastery.udThe subjects of this research are 71 students in the eleventh grade of MAN 2 Marabahan school year 2015/2016. The object of this research is a comparative study between students who like and do not like watching the western movies on their vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade of MAN 2 Marabahan school year 2015/2016.udTo collect the data, the writer uses some techniques, namely interview, questionnaire and written test. The interview is used to find the information about the students and the school, questionnaire is used to classify which students like and do not like watching the western movies, while test is used to find out how the students’ vocabulary mastery. Then, all the data are analyzed quantitatively.udThe result of this research shows that the mean score of the students who like watching the western movies is 79.76 (good category) and the mean score of the students who do not like watching the western movies is 66.43 (fair category). By using the t or t-test formula, the t-count for comparative study is 4.15, which is higher than the t-table 5% and 1% which means that there is a significance difference between students who like and do not like watching the western movies in their vocabulary mastery.
