Studies on the Action in Childrenu27s Play (No.2) : Data for Design of Playthings.

The previous paper dealt with measure of childrenu27s fundamental action, whereas this paper deals with the results of investigation concerning childrenu27s concrete actions in making use of play equipment. In this investigation, as in the previous one, three children of average height were selected from both sexes between 3 and 5 years of age, using a total number 30; and the survey covered the range of their action to make use of certain play equipment. Prior to this investigation, childrenu27s concrete actions of play classified according to different equipment, age and sex were worked out based on the actual conditions of the use of various equipment in the already established playgrounds; and at the same time the extent of their use was examined. These results offer some interesting problems, which however, are still in the preliminary stage of research and will be given further investigation.
