Development of management structures and organic material supply in chineseorganic farming industry

In recent years, Chinese economic development has generated an increase in middle-income consumers whodemand high levels of food safety. The stable supply of safe agricultural products, such as pollution-free food,green food, and organic food has been a subject of discussion. Moreover, consideration is given to the conservationof resources and protection of the environment. At present, organic food production in China is fragmented. Insome cases, the materials needed for organic farming are not locally sourced and the farmers have to purchasematerials from outside their region. This creates instability in the organic food supply. To address this issue, somelandowners, such as those in Shandong, have cooperated to improve regional supplies of organic livestock.However, there exist problems related to financial debt and skill shortages, among others. To overcome theseproblems, cooperatives need to increases business capital and up-scale to improve business efficiency as well asimprove management practices. Thus, it seems that the increase in efficiency of subsistence farming and thedevelopment of organic farming can progress in parallel. However, in the existing business model in China, theproblems of combination of grain cultivation and horticultural business and the safety of the feed grain of stockraising have not been solved yet
