Bootstrapping Data Deposition In the Earth Sciences: A Joint Elsevier/IEDA Initiative To Ramp Up Research Data Import

The Data Rescue Process Study is a project that aims to rescue critical legacy datasets by helping investigators to compile data for inclusion in IEDA data collections. IEDA will provide modest support (funding) for investigators to help offset data retrieval charges that may be incurred for preparing datasets for inclusion in IEDA data collections. Elsevier will pay for 'data wranglers' to add metadata to research collections, work with investigators to identify data sources and formats, and to work with IEDA to define metadata standards, quality checks, etc. Based on the pilots, IEDA and Elsevier will develop a record of best processes for data rescue and produce a published report.
