Mental retardation is a condition of arrested or incompleteuddevelopment of the mind, which is especially characterized byudimpairment of skills manifested during the developmental period,udwhich contribute to the overall level of intelligence, i.e. cognitive,udlanguage, motor, and social abilities. Retardation can occur with orudwithout any other mental or physical disorder. Adaptive behaviour isudalways impaired, but in protected social environments where supportudis available this impairment may not be at all obvious in subjects withudmild mental retardation.
