Recent publications on services for the elderly in Ireland frequentlyudstress the importance of improved co-ordination in the delivery of theseudservices. However, this is the first study to focus exclusively on coordinatingudservices for the elderly at the local level in this country.udThe study, which evaluates the experience of two pilot projects, has itsudorigins in the recommendations of National Council companion reportsudpublished in 1985. They were Housing of the Elderly in Ireland andudInstitutional Care of the Elderly in Ireland.udGood housing is central to the provision of good quality care in theudcommunity. Many elderly people are vulnerable to ill health andlorudinstitutional referral as a result of poor housing conditions. Hence, coordinationudbetween health boards, local authorities and voluntary bodiesudis a necessary component of community care.
