The Carnegie Inquiry into the Third Age has added greatly to our understandingudof the active years of later life and of the contribution which active older peopleudmake to society. We commend the Carnegie Trust for the series of conferencesudwhich it is hosting to highlight the findings of the Third Age Inquiry. We areudpleased that the Trust hosted a Conference to examine the findings of the Inquiryudon life, work and livelihood in the Third Age and their implications for Ireland,udboth North and South. We were happy to open the Conference which was heldudin Trinity College, Dublin.udWe were impressed by the range and quality of the speakers at the Conferenceudand the debates which ensued. The Conference themes which includedudemployment, income, health and opportunities in the Third Age were widelyuddisseminated and we are certain that the participants gained valuable insight intoudthe issues which affect Third Agers now and in the years to come.
