Background: The Librarian and Pharmacist in a service for adults with intellectual disability run a journal club 4 times a year. It offers people an opportunity to talk on a specialist topic. All staff and – where possible – service users (people with intellectual disability) are invited to attend. In 2015 the Journal Club also held a poster show where staff could display any conference posters they had. In the last year the topics covered in the Journal Club were: disenfranchised grief, maintaining brain health, and volunteering overseas. The first one was for staff only and the other two were open to all. Presenters rose to the challenge of giving an accessible presentation to a broad audience. udResults: The journal clubs were well attended with one requiring extra seating. The presenters were asked to repeat their talks for people who were absent and in some cases for people who wanted to hear more. The organisers learned a lot when putting on the poster show – namely the difficulties involved in getting posters to stay up! Pins were the answer at times. udConclusions: The journal club is a way for the Librarian and Pharmacist to collaborate and provides an opportunity for staff members and people with intellectual disabilities to listen to and discuss a topic of interest together.
