The National Council’s fourth annual conference takesudplace in the Alexander Hotel, Dublin, on the 17 and 18udNovember 2004. The title of this year’s conference isudFacing the Challenge of Change: Nurses and Midwives –udProactive in Professional Development to SupportudChange. The conference will be opened by the Ministerudfor Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin. There willudbe two keynote addresses. The first will be delivered byudMr Michael Kelly, Secretary General of the Department ofudHealth and Children on the Changing Role of theudDepartment of Health and Children. The second will beuddelivered by Mr. Kevin Kelly, Chairman of the InterimudHealth Service Executive (iHSE) on Building the HealthudServices Executive – Looking Forward to 2005 andudBeyond.udThe programme for the conference includes speakersudfrom the United States of America, Australia andudIreland. In previous years, about 1,000 nurses andudmidwives have attended the conference over the twouddays. Detailed information about this year’s conferenceudis contained in this newsletter. The conference is anudimportant element of the work of the National Counciludas it gives us an opportunity to address the key issuesudaffecting the profession today and to provide nurses andudmidwives with a space for reflection and networking.
