The Minister for Health's Strategy for effective health care in the 1990s - 'Shaping audHealthier Future' - has emphasised the need for quality of service as one of its keyudprinciples. Hospital acquired infection, including MRSA, is a potential indicator ofudquality of care and should be an integral part of the clinical audit process. Theudterms of reference of this committee,which has drawn up these guidelines, was toudidentify the extent to which MRSA is a problem in the Irish Health Care Settingudand to establish priorities for its control. The committee felt that it was important toudstress the need for Infection Control Committees and the role of Infection ControludOfficers .
