摘要

The intention of the research is to identify the complexity of plantation forest industry in providing pulp industry raw material, activity analysis, its interaction and its cost allocation in the value chain of the company, and lastly the analysis of source and form of the competitive advantage. The purpose of the environment industry analysis is to identify the competition intensity of plantation forest industry. The forestry policy analysis is to identify its policy and raw material of the industry.ududDescriptive method is used in this research in the from of case study on PT. Musi Hutan Persada. Primary data is taken from the result of field visit and interview, which covers value chain activity in the company. ududIn principles, key success factor for the industry are: the sustainability of its quantity and quality, right timing, and price competitiveness. Two key activities in the value chain are: (1) primary activity with 80 % cost allocation, operation and external logistic, (2) supporting activity with 20 % cost allocation. Cost allocation comprises of 26.6 % for harvesting process and 27.4 % for the transportation from the total operation cost of company, with absolute amount of Rp 368.1 billion. ududIn general, competition level of plantation forest industry is relatively low. The negotiation power of the buyer and competition among companies are two top priorities in the market. The strategy of building plantation forest industry competitive advantage are : (1) price competitiveness through the most efficient operational cost, and (2) appropriate value chain, through building strategic business unit (SBU) in the harvesting and transportation.udThe potency of forestry industry can be expanded further, it is reflected by the demand of pulp industry reaches up to 27.7 million m3/year whilst its supply only 20.9 million m3/year (included imported log with the amount of 7.5 million m3/year). Revitalization and deregulation of forestry industry are needed in the aspect of permits, tax, regulation, and fund to support the growth of the industry.
