The teaching of Geography to people who will be working in mixed civilian and military situations is an important opportunity for understanding how strategic and integrated knowledge, skills and attitudes are augmented in a University and Military environment. The deliberate combination of human and biophysical environments, systems, scales and geographies results in a milieu that is both easy and mind-bendingly complex. Through a range of activities, content areas and problems the undergraduates can develop new strategically useful insights. Also, through iterative experiments in activities in the field, classroom and assignments of courses, an approach has emerged to extending the strategic foresight of future leaders. The intellectual preparation of future leaders requires new approaches to frameworks of regional geography, knowledgeable study of the past and cultivating the capabilities at the political, strategic, operational and tactical levels that develop societies' preparedness. Equally, the development of integrated research attitudes, knowledge and skills in postgraduate students has been a challenge in a sometimes barren or hostile University environment. The reasons for this will be discussed. Yet opportunities exist for improving civilian and professional military education and research. This paper will also seek to sum-up the discussion of the Strategic Military Geography and establish consensus for the next steps in this field.
