摘要

The objective of this paper is to highlight theudeffectiveness of light shelves in tropical officeudbuildings to enhance interior daylighting quality.udDaylight simulation was performed for custom lightudshelves for a typical office floor of Dhaka City inudBangladesh, to determine the best possible locationudunder overcast sky conditions. Six alternative modelsudof a 3m high study space were created with varyingudheights of light shelves. The 3D models were firstudgenerated in the Ecotect to study the distribution anduduniformity of daylight in the interior space with splitfluxudmethod. These models were then exported to audphysically-based backward raytracer, RadianceudSynthetic Imaging software to generate realisticudlighting levels for validating and crosschecking theudEcotect results. The results showed that for achievingudlight levels closest to specified standards, lightudshelves at a height of 2m above floor level performudbetter among the seven alternatives studied includingudthe alternative where no light shelves are present.udFinally, the decisions were verified with DAYSIMudsimulation program to ensure the compliance of theuddecisions with dynamic annual climate-baseduddaylight performance metrics.
