An agent-based model to explore a pluralism of land regulation in rural Sahel: supplementary data

Supplementary data of the article"A stakeholder-oriented framework to consider the plurality of land policy integration in Sahel", aiming to allow the direct replication of the agent-based model developed within this research. According to their diverse perspectives, Sahelian inhabitants, who have lived for centuries in an extremely variable and uncertain environment, have forged flexible and dynamic territory uses and management to take advantage of these environmental conditions and ensure their access to land resources. We show, through an agent-based model, that the diversity of perspectives of Sahelian land actors (users and regulators), when they interact for access to water and land resources, is the essence of the expression of a stakeholder-oriented pluralism of land regulation. This is an informal but lasting feature in these complex Sahelian land tenure contexts. We studied two scenarios of different spatial introduction patterns of new land regulation sources within this pluralist default situation and showed that the plurality of perspectives and the spatial pattern of a new land regulation introduction play a key role in the diffusion of a new land regulation in a pluralist socio-ecological system, through the ways land actors perceive, according to their diverse perspectives, these land regulation changes and take them into account in their land uses and management practices.
