摘要

This paper discusses a qualitative study of interviews with 22 female township cadres in C city of Hunan province. Findings showed that the start-up position of female township cadres has a greater impact on their access to social capital. Especially, while the possession of endowed resources decides the differences in female township cadres' career advancement, the influence of attained resources is expanding. The mobilisation of connections based social networks can bridge distance: for example, horizontal networks affect female township cadres' emotional support, while vertical networks may not be as effective as the mobilisation of social capital. Female township cadres in disadvantaged positions are overall in a weaker position in the use of social capital and personal development. The study also found that female township cadres are still generally affected by the worries of "being the subject of suspicion".
