The Paradisus animae intelligents. The present contribution pursues a triple objective : firstly, to present briefly a sermonary, of which a large number of texts are attributed to Meister Eckhart, and the date of its composition, which is situated just after the publication of the bull condemning In agro dominico, which suffices to demonstrate its importance. Secondly, to recall the circumstances which governed its edition in 1919, that is, at a time when philology in the universities was tainted by the demons of nationalism, which is illustrated by the incorporation of the Paradisus in the Deutsche Texte des Mittelalters, whose chief editor was Gustav Roethe. Thirdly, to take into account the reasons which have brought about a renewed interest, belated but growing, for the sermonary. We consider that the Paradisus bene- fitted principally from the change of paradigm which intervened around 1 960 in Eckhartian studies, that is, the historic study of Meister Eckhart and his work.
