Les coffres en pierre du sud-Bretagne : pseudo-ossar/a antiques et vrais pile-mil d'époque moderne / The Stone chests of southern Brittany: pseudo-Antique ossaria and real modem millet grinders

摘要

Several recent studies have provided inventories of stone chests found in the departments of Morbihan and Finistère. These authors have based their work on a theory, first formulated some fifty years ago, that these chests were Roman funerary repositories. The aim of this study is to disprove a hypothesis which has numerous weaknesses, and to offer a new proposal. The lack of archaeological context, the typology of the mouldings, the nature of the decoration and a functionnal analysis provide an identification as mortars of the Modem period, to be used for grinding millet.
