A second example of an inscription referring to a sanctuary of Titus and Aphrodite, and a head of a statue attributable to Aphrodite which may be dated to the middle of the 2nd century BC were discovered 25 m. and 15 m. respectively from the north gate of the lower town of Amathus. The new text makes possible a sure reading of the old one and attests to the existence of a sanctuary called 'between the stelai', a formula that no doubt designates its boundaries and the stones themselves on which the inscriptions were carved. It draws attention once more to L. Bruttius Maximus and the imperial cult. The coincidence of the discoveries invites us to search in the immediate vicinity for a second sanctuary of the goddess, less celebrated than that on the acropolis, and which possibly took the place, in AD 79/80, of a hieros topos of the 2nd c. BC.
