The stratigraphy of the quaternary deeper marine and terrestnal deposits of the North Sea coastal plain in France is descnbed from the profile of the excavation of west outer-harbour of Dunkerque at Loon-Plage (Nord) The age - holocene or pleistocene - of the mollusc fauna of the lower manne pebbly and shelly sands is discussed , it is actually asenbed to an interglacial. The recent regional data incite also to consider as Eemian this Loon Formation, widely preserved m depths, underlying Weichselian eolian loams overlain by Boreal basal peat which marks the beginning of the manne holocene sequence
