The «Amis de l'URSS» and the journey In the Soviet Union. The staging of a conversion. Rachel Mazuy. [108-128]. The «Amis de l'URSS» association (AUS), «mass-organization» linked with the French Communist Party (PCF) and founded on the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution emerged during the 1930's as a travel organizer with a sole destination : the Soviet Union. One assists to the progressive structuration of a social activity carrying «truth about USSR» and thus becoming an instrument of conversion as is shown in an analysis or the key moments of the journey. This social activity may also and above all be analysed as an initiation ritual for the converts to militancy within the AUS and therefore used as a tool for internal political promotion of future AUS officials.
