Abstract. - From two rural landscapes (granitic middle mountain and Grands Causses) the study presents two farmer societies. After showing the elementary units (geomorphology and soil) and their utilization, it has been shown how the agricultural erosion has changed the cultivated slopes as to remodel them ; new physical conditions are so different as before that a new settlement must consider them.
