Abstract. - In the oasis of Western Desert (Egypt) and in the steppe of Libya, the irrigation works made during the Antiquity compose a technical system that can explain the local transformation of the society and of the environment. The irrigation system is shown as an answer to a very hard environment but, also, as a danger for the fields.
