Habitats et nécropoles du haut Moyen-Âge en vallée de Vaucouleurs (sites de Septeuil et Villette, Yvelines) / Settlements and burial sites of the Early Medieval period in the Vaucouleurs valley (the sites of Septeuil and Villette, Yvelines)

Between 1984 et 1991 emergency excavations between Mantes-la-Jolie et Septeuil concerned a part of four sites: two burial sites: La Pierre Bat and la Villette and two settlements: la Pièce du Moulin et Groux. Some artefacts dated to the Merovingian period complete our information of the sites. At la Pierre Bat, a little less than forty burials have been excavated. Some artefacts reflect long distance influence e.g. some Anglo-Saxon objects and a copper alloy brooch in animal style II ofAlamannic type. At la Pièce Moulin a pit-house and a silo date probably from the 10th century. At Groux, concentrations of ashes with sherds of the Argonne type and conical vessels indicate a settlement from the late Antiquity and the earliest Middle Ages.
