Les bains et l'environnement de la villa gallo-romaine de la Pétonnière à Paulnay (Indre) / The baths and environment of the gallo-roman villa of La Pétonnière at Paulnay (Indre)

The baths of the Gallo-Roman villa of « La Pétonnière » at Paulnay (Indre) which were discovered in 1979, have known eight successive states spreading over a period going from the middle of the 1st century A.D. till the 7th century. The baths, which were built in a clayey depression with springs, have made possible the detailed study of the remarkable adaptation of the builders to particularly loose and damp surroundings (foundations on posts, batardeaux and drain-pipes). The botanical remains, which were collected during the excavations and by taking away sediments have been the subject of a palaeocarpological analysis leading to an attempt to restore the vegetable environment. The integration of the villa in its geological (quarries) and human environment is also alluded to as well as the fauna collected in the archaeological levels.
