Abstract. - This paper highlights the place of storm not only as a moment of rapid morphogenesis, but also as a danger for society. This latter aspect is of upmost importance because a whole range of technical devices have been used to protect properties and persons. The shoreline, strongly protected by a series of walls, rip-raps and groynes, can no longer reshape itself naturally and, consequently, run more risks of coastal flooding when storms occur. This is why storms seem more dangerous to everyone than in the past, when they were essentially a sight for many people.
