Les potentialités de développement du Moyen-Atlas oriental et leur appréciation par les acteurs locaux / Development possibilities in the eastern Middle Atlas Mountains and their assessment by local actors

Abstract : The author first analyses the causes of the economic and social crisis affecting the eastern Middle Atlas region : the breakdown of the links between tribal society and pastoral areas, the increasing enclavement of land, the decline of the rural population with the exodus to the urban centres situated on the periphery of the mountain areas. He then describes the possibilities for development (extension of irrigated areas, development of agricultural land through the use of new crops such as Rosaceaz, modernisation of stock rearing, development of pluri-activity) and the ways in which they are evaluated by the actors in local development : government decision- makers and managers, local authorities and the working population.
