The site at Vichy has been studied as part of a research program covering bridge-pile sites on the corse of the Allier, within the department which takes its name. Samples were taken from 10 out of the 88 piles identified for dating by dendrochronology ; subject to better control by use of additional samples, a date between 1524 and 1555 can be put forward for the construction of the bridge.
