摘要
Vocational Training and Employment: a More Definite Link in Germany - A french person under 25 is more likely to be unemployed than a German of the same age. Demographic factors and the pace at which jobs are created account for part of this difference, but educational systems also play a role: not only do young Germans have on the whole more degrees than young French people, but a German vocational degree is also a better guarantee against unemployment than its French equivalent. In Germany, schoolchildren are divided into specialized channels earlier. A large majority of them go into vocational training. The degree obtained at the end of this type of education is all the more recognized by firms as they provide most of it. As a result, vocational degree constitute a real proof of skill and condition the access to tain positions. On the contrary, the French educational system, which consists of a common set of general courses, favours late specialization, and technical and vocational subjects are not regarded as prestigious. The level reached by the student has more importance than his specialty vocational training, which is essentially provided by schools, seems to be less recognized by firms. For the latter, qualification is less connected to the degree than to the working experience. Over the last few years, however, the trends in both Germany and France, have tended to make the two systems more similar.
