Jean-Paul Bertaud : The History of the Press during the Revolution. This synthesis describes the current state of research on the revolutionary press. The article makes an inventory of recent historiography and of classic studies. It analyses the areas that have been researched recently : group portraits of journalists, the kinds of production, the weight of the political press of both the patriots and the opposition, the current interest in the provincial press. But Bertaud also emphasizes the areas of research still to be prospected : the administration of the press, its circulation and audience, the typology of transmitters and receivers. The article presents the perspectives that have been opened up by the critical bibliography of the press of the year II and encourages scholars to multiply the monographs in the field.
