Summary 1° The method : study of the existing maps and of the available information followed by a personal investigation in the field. This led to define the village as an inhabited place with a name, i.e. a geographical area with a name accepted by all, inhabitants and neighbours, and occupied throughout the year by a group of people organized as a social unit. 2° A table shows the distribution of all the villages among the tribes and the districts. There are 244 villages distributed on 4 districts (arrondissements) and inhabited by Bassari, Diakhanke, Dialonke, Malinké, Peul, Tendanke or Bedik, and Sarakole people. 3° A list or the villages classified according to the districts, and showing for each village : the name written according to the administrative spelling, an attempt to give a phonetic spelling, the tribe or the main tribes present in the village.
