Evidence of the adverse impact of the « Avellino Pumices » eruption of Somma-Vesuvius on old bronze age sites in the Campania region (Southern Italy) L'impact de l'éruption du Somma-Vésuve dite des « Ponces d'Avellino » sur les sites du Bronze antique en Campanie (Italie méridionale)

We present a synthesis of the results of an interdisciplinary research on the Old Bronze Age sites (Palma Campania facies) affected by the « Avellino Pumices» eruption of Somma- Vesuvius, providing a more precise chronology of the event and demonstrating its adverse impact on the human settlements of the region. The date of the eruption is placed in the interval 1880-1680 BC. The time for resettlement is estimated to range from no more than 230 years for the sites distal from the volcano, the cover a wider time interval depending from the type of pyroclastic deposit in the proximal ones.
