Première approche de l'évolution de l'industrie du silex du Ve au IVe millénaire avant Jésus-Christ dans le sud-est du Bassin parisien

ABSTRACT Study of about ten lithic series belonging to the Early Neolithic (Late Linear), Middle I Neolithic (Cerny group) and Middle II Neolithic (Noyen group) has demonstrated an evolution of the production of flint tools in the south-east of the Paris Basin. The principal results show that the Early Neolithic is characterised by the existence of minoritary blade production, dependent on a high degree of technical know-how and by the acquisition of raw materials from elsewhere, or of difficult access. This production structure would seem to have been inherited from the Late Linear Pottery culture of the north of the Paris Basin, presumed to be at the origin of the earliest Neolithic founds in the region. The abandoning of this type of production seems to translate an early technical autonomy in this region, compared with the Danube model. It would appear to be linked to a change in the technical system and, also, to an improved adaptation of knapping techniques and methods to local raw materials, which are very abundant but of mediocre quality. This adaptation seems to be part of the process of socio-economic changes which are visible in the archaeological data.
