Conversion of unsignalized intersections into roundabouts

Construction of a new junction as a roundabout is very popular in Slovenia over the last 20 years. Latest trends integrate conversion of unsignalized intersections into roundabouts. Since the space for conversion of the intersection is usually limited, especially in urban areas, the solutions have to be found with either minimal or no construction activity.udModification possibilities were investigated with the analysis of a sample of eight intersections. In my thesis, I verified that the basic geometric elements, recommended by legislation for single lane roundabouts with diameter at least 27 m, could also be applied to smaller and mini roundabouts.udAnalysis of the basic geometric elements has confirmed my hypothesis. In the conclusion some new directions in the design conversion are proposed.
