RISMA WIYANTI: The Comparative Study Between The Students’ Knowledge Of Vocabulary With And Without Learning By Discussion Of The Second Grade Students At MTs An-Nur kota Cirebon Language is a tool of communication. According to Sapir (1921:7) defines language as a purely human and non instinctive Method of Communicating ideas, emotions and desires by means of a system of voluntarily produced symbols. Language is very important to be learned to get communication with others, instead English is the international language. It makes English becomes the main material in School Curriculum since the base level. And it is happen also in MTs An-Nur kota Cirebon that was become the location of language research by the researcher, especially in the students knowledge of the material of vocabulary. Researcher choose the material of vocabulary to be researched because the students often feels confuse or don’t understand about the material given by the teacher. The researcher wants to change this opinion with the help of the right method. And the method is by learning by discussion and learning without discussion, because the title of this thesis is “The Comparative Study Between The Students’ Knowledge Of Vocabulary With And Without Learning By Discussion Of The Second Grade Students At MTs An-Nur kota Cirebon” The aims of the research are to find out the data of the students’ knowledge of vocabulary with learning by discussion and the data of the students’ knowledge of vocabulary without learning by discussion and whether there is any positive and significant comparative study between the students’ knowledge of vocabulary with and without learning by discussion. The techniques of collecting data used by the researcher are observation, and test. All of these kinds of techniques of collecting data are used to collect the data are categorized as the quantitative data. After the data has been analyed, the writer concluded that the mean score of students’ achievement of vocabulary with learning by discussion is 72.85 ( categorized good) and the score of students’ achievement of vocabulary without learning by discussion is 69.86 (categorized good). And there is any positive and significant comparison between x1 variable and x2 variable. It is caused t – count (t – hitung) is 3.59 and t – table is 2.42. It shows that t – count > t – table, so that Ho rejected. It means that from the reliable 99% it is concluded that there is positive and significant comparative study between the students’ knowledge of vocabulary with and without learning by discussion.
