CIREBON”udSpeaking a language is especially difficult for foreign language learnersudbecause effective oral communication requires the ability to use the languageudappropriately in social interactions. In learning English especially in speaking,udsometimes the students feel bored with certain teaching atmosphere. The students areudnot enjoyed and not confidence if they speak English, the students haven’t knownudwell about pronunciation and vocabulary in speaking English. By this problem theudwriter would like to know and try to research this case by using information gapudtechnique to the students’ achievement in speaking English, as the problem solving.udSo the writer do hopes by using information gap technique help them to study Englishudwell especially in speaking.udThe aims of the research that the writer wants to find out the data from theudstudents, such as: to find out the students’ response of teaching English by usingudinformation gap technique, the students’ achievement in speaking English before andudafter teaching English by using information gap technique, and the influence ofudteaching English by using information gap technique on the students’ achievement inudspeaking English.udThe method of the research is quantitative research. The population of theudresearch is the seventh grade of SMPN I Gunung Jati Kab. Cirebon, there are 360udstudents and choose class VII-A for 30 students. In this research, the techniques ofudcollecting data used by the writer are observation, interview, questionnaire and test.udThe quantitative data that analyzed by using t-test (pre-test and post-test one designudgroup).udHaving analyzed the data, the writer found that the mean score of the students'udresponse of teaching English by using information gap technique is good responses,udthe average score is 8. The mean score of the students' achievement in speakingudEnglish before and after teaching English by using information gap technique namelyud54.4 and 76.3, and the score of ttest is 7.87. So the result of ttest is 7.87 > ttable is 2.04.udSo, Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted and Ho (Null Hypothesis) is rejected.udFrom the result above, it can be known that there is a positive and significantudinfluence of teaching English by using information gap technique on the students’udachievement in speaking English at the seventh grade of SMPN I Gunung Jati Kab.udCirebon. So the teaching English by using information gap technique is one ofudtechniques that can help and improve students’ achievement in the process of learningudin speaking English.
