ROSITA AMIRUL: AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ GRAMMATICALudERRORS ON THE USE OF SIMPLE PAST TENSE INudWRITING NARRATIVE TEXT (A CASE STUDY OFudTHE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MA ASHSHIDDIQIYYAHudCIREBON)udBased on the researcher’s experience while doing a preliminary observation,udshe noticed that the use of simple past tense often makes tenth grade students of MAudAsh-Shiddiqiyyah Cirebon confused with its complexity, moreover when it is appliedudin a writing. Several kinds of errors occur. Error can be used to identify students’udlearning progress therefore the writer decided to analyze grammatical errors on theuduse of simple past tense in students’ narrative text.udThe aims of the research are to find out the types of grammatical errors on theuduse of simple past tense in narrative text written by the tenth grade students of MAudAsh-Shiddiqiyyah, to find out the most dominant of grammatical error on the use ofudsimple past tense, and to find out the causes of the errors.udThe research is committed by 39 students of tenth graders of MA Ashshiddiqiyyah.udAs it is descriptive qualitative research, the data collected is in the formudof words of pictures rather than number. The researcher conducts observation,udinterview, and triangulation as a technique for collecting data.udThe result of the analysis of research findings shows that the students madeudseveral types of grammatical errors on the use of simple past tense in writingudnarrative text, those are: omission errors, addition errors, misformation errors, andudmisordering errors. Misformation errors play the most dominant error of all. Thoseuderrors occurred because of lack of motivation, students’ attitude, environment,udfacility, method of teaching, first language interference, and translation.
