Architecture as a Concept. An Architectural-Philosophical Research of Building from a Contemporary Cultural Perspective

The study clarifies the concept of architecture: what makes a building architecture?The research tools are systems thinking, applied conceptual history, the logical analyses of analytical philosophy and hermeneutic methods.The research result clarifies the requirements of scientific architectural research and architectural philosophy, presents architecture as a historical concept from a contemporary cultural perspective and applies the Popper-Niiniluoto three world ontological theory to modern buildings, revealing the dualisticity of the meaning of the concept of "architecture". Finally the concept of architecture is explicated.The main significance of the result of the study discussed is its general clarification of architectural discourse as well as the creation of a firmer conceptual basis for architectural research and the teaching of architecture.
