Identification of risk factors for maternal and fetal complications in women with major sickle cell syndromes: review of 198 cases Pregnancy in women with major sickle cell syndromes is marked by an increased risk of maternal and fetal complications. The aim of our study was to identify possible risk factors for these complications. For this purpose we performed a retrospective study involving 198 cases. We were interested in medical history of these patients and at their hemoglobin levels during pregnancy in order to search a link between these criteria and the occurrence of complications during pregnancy. Our outcomes showed that there is a significant impact of medical history on the occurrence of complications during pregnancy, and also of a hemoglobin level below 8 gr/dl during pregnancy. These results could contribute to preventive and early care in order to reduce morbidity and mortality rates in this population.
