In recent years, submucosal tumors of the stomach tumors are regarded as gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). GIST was classified to four types, a smooth muscle type, a neural type, a combined smooth muscle-neural type, and stromal tumors. However, there have been no reports on whether this histological classification is related to clinical significance or surgical treatment, and the surgical indications for GIST have not been standardized. In the present study, 76 patients with gastric myogenic tumors who underwent surgical resection were reviewed for the clinical significance, of the histological classification for GIST. All patients with lesions less than 4 cm survived after curative resection. In conclusion, greater than 4 cm of tumors were clearly operable, and partial resection of the stomach was a suitable surgical treatment.
