摘要

The electrochemical behavior of UNSudA0332.00S, UNS A0332.20S, UNS A0359.00S, and UNSudA0359.20S aluminum alloys were studied in NaCl mediaudthrough weight loss, potentiodynamic, and cyclic polarizationudtechniques. UNS A0332.20S and UNS A0359.20Sudwere reinforced with SiC, 20% by volume while the otherudtwo samples were not reinforced. Scanning electronudmicroscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy were usedudto analyze the role of intermetallic phases in both theudcorroded and non-corroded aluminum alloy samples.udResults showed that unreinforced alloys have lower corrosionudrates compared to the reinforced alloys. Pits on theudreinforced alloys were significantly more numerous, shallower,udand widespread than on the monolithic alloys. Al/udSiC interface particles and intermetallic phases wereudobserved to form at the mouth of the pits especially inudalloys reinforced with SiC particles which might haveudcontributed significantly to the weakening of regions whereudlocalized corrosion occurs. The result shows that intermetallicudphases may directly influence the corrosionudbehavior of the aluminum alloys
