摘要

In this study, we developed Zn–Nb2O5 compositeudcoatings from sulfate bath for wear and corrosion performanceudon mild steel by electrodeposition technique. Theudeffect of Nb2O5 particulate on the Zn–Nb2O5 properties wasudinvestigated. The particle volume fraction was varied withinudbetween 10 and 20 wt%. The structural properties of theudcomposite coatings were characterized using scanningudelectron microscope equipped with energy-dispersive spectrometer.udThe hardness and wear of the composite coatingudwere measured with diamond base microhardness indenterudtester and sliding CETR reciprocating wear testers, respectively.udThe corrosion properties were examined in 3.65%udNaCl using AUTOLAB 101 Metrohm potentiostat–galvanostatudwith linear polarization technique. The resultsudshowed that average hardness value of 192.6 and 200.6 HVudand passivation potential of 4.39E?08 and 5.30E?08(X)udwere obtained for the 10–20 wt% Nb2O5 particulate on theudZn–Nb2O5 coatings. The wear performance improves byud63.4% as against the control sample. In all, this studyudestablished that up to 20 wt% of Nb2O5 in Zn–Nb2O5 composite coating significant corrosion, wear and microhardnessudpropagation resistance of mild steel was attained.
