Conference/Workshop Attendance by Librarians: Benefits, Challenges, andudProspects

摘要

This paper discussed the benefits, challenges, and prospects ofudlibrarians attending conferences or workshops. A sun1ey research design wasudadopted and a questionnaire was used for data collection. Copies of theudquestionnaire were administered to 64 librarians at a conference. 53 completedudcopies were returned and used for data analysis. The study revealed thatudlibrarians derived many benefits from conference or workshop attendance, suchudas it enables them to remain up-to-date, acquire new skills, network withudcolleagues, develop article writing and presentation skills, and so on. Theudchallenges that librarians encountered included high cost of conferenceudregistration fees, lack of sponsorship, and unawareness. The paper concludedudthat conference or workshop attendance by librarians is not a matter of choiceudbut a must if they want to remain relevant and up-to-date in the information age.
