O presente trabalho pretende demonstrar que o corpo é o alicerce edificantedo romance Em Nome da Terra, de Vergílio Ferreira. Ao olhar do leitor, o corpoirrompe ora grosseiro, repulsivo e decadente, ora deslumbrante, perfeito e ágil.Por isso, o romance esculpe o corpo deformado, degradado e envelhecido,assim como belo, esplêndido e jovem, mostrando, dessa forma, a beleza quepode existir na velhice de um corpo. ABSTRACT: The present work intends to demonstrate that the body is the edifying structureof Vergílio Ferreira’s novel Em Nome da Terra. In the reader’s perspective, thebody either irrupts rude and decadent, or sumptuous, perfect and agile.Therefore, the roman portraits the unshaped, old and deformed body, as wellas the beautiful, splendid and young, clarifying the beauty that can emergefrom getting old.
