Texture mapping has been widely used in imageudprocessing and graphics to enhance the realism of CG scenes.udHowever to perfectly match the feature points of a 3D modeludwith the corresponding pixels in texture images, theudparameterisation which maps a 3D mesh to the texture spaceudmust satisfy the positional constraints. Despite numerousudresearch efforts, the construction of a mathematically robustudfoldover-free parameterisation subject to internal constraintsudis still a remaining issue. In this paper, we address thisudchallenge by developing a two-step parameterisation method.udFirst, we produce an initial parameterisation with a methodudtraditionally used to solve structural engineering problems, udcalled the bar-network. We then derive a mathematicaludfoldover-free condition, which is incorporated into a RadialudBasis Function based scheme. This method is therefore able toudguarantee that the resulting parameterization meets the hardudconstraints without foldovers.
