Model predictive control (MPC) for power converters and drives is a control technique that has gained attention into theresearch community. The main reason is that although MPC presents high computational burden it can handle multivariable caseand system constrains and nonlinearities easily in a very intuitive way. Taking advantage of that, MPC has been successfully usedfor different applications such as active front end, power converters connected to RL loads, uninterruptible power supplies andhigh performance drive for induction machines among others. This paper provides a review of the application of MPC in thepower electronics area.
