Surgical Trauma of the Urinary Tracts due to the Gynecological Operations : Report of 17 Cases

Lately the problems of surgical injuries to the uri n ary tracts due to the gynecological operations have become important both in Urology and Gynecology. Here this report dealt with this matter based on 1 7 cases we had experienced from 1954 to 1958. They could be classified as follows. 1. Vesicovaginal fistula 4 Three of them had ston e -formation in fistulae or bladder. Causes . Panhysterectomy 2 Supravaginal amput a t i o n 2 Treatments Transvesical closure : 1 Transvaginal closure 1 These surgical techniques were succ e ssful. 2. Surgical trauma of ureter : 13 Type of surgical trauma and treatments. (1) Ureterovaginal fistula 4 Nephrectomy 2 Ureterocystoneos t o m y 1 (2) Stenosis or stricture of ureter : 4 Nephrectomy 1 Nephrostomy : 1 Ureterocystoneos t o m y 1 Cutaneous ureterostomy 1 Most of them had undergone panhystere c tomy, and anuria was the clinical manifestation in three cases. Nephrostomy or cutaneous ureterostomy was found to be effective to improve their impaired renal function.
